HISTORY

Fr. Henry Nmor O.P. is a Dominican Priest (Order of Preachers) ordained December 7, 1996. He worked in many parishes and chaplaincies, with the youth and among the indigent needy people. It was during his tenure as associate pastor at St. Paul’s Parish, Oyigbo, while carrying out hospital visitation apostolate that he met an indigent very sickly abandoned widow and her two little sons in one of the remotest hospitals. The doctor told him, the widow has been discharged (even though still sickly) and cancelled her bill, but she has no home and elsewhere to go, and asked if Fr. Henry could do something about it, otherwise she would be thrown out. He was reluctant to take up the challenge but he knew he had no option but to obey Christ’s word (Matt 25: 35-46). Fr. Henry took the challenge after deep prayers and reflection. He arranged for accommodation for the sickly widow and her children and got three young women to take care of them. Later their number increased as they visited and discovered a lot more other indigent widows and their children, and orphans.

It was a difficult decision Fr. Henry had to take by starting a group who will dedicate their lives to the service of the abandon indigent widows and their orphaned children.
On July 9th, 2008, Fr. Henry started the Holy Trinity of the Poor. Four women joined him in sharing his vision of dedicating their lives to serve the needs of indigent widows, orphaned children, the sick, the aged and those innumerable brothers and sisters who lack necessary care and attention. Together they set about the task of sharing God’s love and relying on His Divine providence. They reached out to the very indigent and helpless, showing practical love of God to the uncared for and bringing the ostracized closer to God.
Since its founding, the Missionaries of Holy Trinity of the Poor, which started as a mustard seed, is still growing and spreading around the world.

CHARISM

Our society is to care for the suffering poor, marginalized indigent widows and their children, the orphans and aged. It is to obtain scholarships for indigent widows children; help them to learn trade or skill acquisition. It is also care for stray youth and be fully involved in grassroots evangelization. We have the urge and zeal to care and serve retired clergy at old age.

SPIRITUALITY

This is our Spirit: love and total surrender to God’s perfect will cheerfully. Love is the greatest commandment of God. Every member must be deeply rooted in the love of God and neighbour selflessly and unconditionally.

APOSTOLATE

Missionaries of  Holy Trinity of the Poor is specially formed for the caring and empowerment of indigent widows and their children, the orphans, care and service to retired clergy , the aged and the helpless. We carry out these apostolates in an atmosphere of love and prayer, and seek the special patronage of the Most Holy Trinity. We assist indigent widows to be self-employed through teaching them handiwork or trade of their choice Indigent widow’s children who are out of school are helped to get back to school. Scholarships are given to their children and orphans in schools or be trained in trades or skill acquisition. We help youths who are out of school and into drugs and crime by teaching them moral values, empowering them and bringing them closer to Christ. We are fully involved in rural evangelization. In this apostolate we reach out to many in rural areas, who do not know Jesus and are still worshipping idols, using charms, amulets and carrying out fetish practices, and Christians who are weak and need to be encouraged, their faith renewed and strengthened. We visit families and lax Christians, and enthrone Bible in their homes
We visit the sick at homes and hospitals, and pray and care for their necessary needs. We go out to the streets cheerfully feeding the hungry, beggars and homeless. We have the zeal and urge to care and serve the clergy at their old age. We make ourselves available to serve the needs of our retired Priest so that they can enjoy their old age.
In carrying out our apostolate, we go all out with smiling face and joyful heart to care and serve the needs of the poor bringing smiles to their faces, and joy and love of Christ to their souls, with the aim of showing practical love of God to the helpless and bringing the ostracized closer to Christ.

THE TRIANGLE

TriangleMost Holy Trinity

A triangle is a three-sided polygon, which has three vertices. The three sides are connected with each other end to end at a point. To us Missionaries of Holy Trinity of the Poor, “The Triangle” signifies “The Most Holy Trinity”. The doctrine of the Trinity means that there is one God who eternally exists as three distinct Persons — the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Stated differently, God is one in essence and three in person. These definitions express three crucial truths: (1) The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct Persons, (2) each Person is fully God, (3) there is only one God.

THE HOLY ROSARY

Holy RosaryOur Blessed Mother Mary

The Rosary is taken from the Latin word “rosarium” which means “crown of roses” or “garland of roses.” The Rosary is a traditional Catholic prayer that seeks to honor Mary, the mother of Jesus. To us Missionaries of Holy Trinity of the Poor, “The Rosary” Signifies “Our Blessed Virgin Mary” through whom we make our intercession to our Saviour, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

THE GLOBE

GlobeEvangelization

A globe is a spherical model of Earth, of some other celestial body, or of the celestial sphere.

Evangelism should be a part of every Christian’s life. However, many believers are scared to death of this word, because they envision street corner proselytizing, door-to-door “cold calling,” or sweltering nights in a jungle somewhere. Also, many Christians feel nervous speaking and unequipped to deal with people’s questions. Yes, some believers have a “gift of evangelism” and they’re called to reach out to the world in dramatic ways. However, all of us are called to be witnesses for Christ and this should be a soft and natural extension of our everyday lives. Missionaries of Holy Trinity of the Poor members are dedicated in spreading the Gospel world-wide by the power of the Most Holy Trinity and by the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary!

THE CROSS

The CrossSuffering and Pains

For anyone familiar with the Old Testament, the cross represents the culmination of prophecy dating back to the Garden of Eden. God had always promised to send Jesus to suffer and die, taking the punishment that we deserve for our sins. To us Missionaries of Holy Trinity of the Poor “The Cross” signifies the Trials, Pains, Tribulations,  Temptation, Sufferings, and Persecutions that one may encounter on the journey for the Salvation of Souls.
